iris announces further investment in Asia Pacific
March 11th, 2010
iris has announced that five of its senior management will relocate from the London headquarters to its Singapore and Sydney offices to help drive growth and investment across the region.
Creative director Grant Hunter (far right) and head of planning Paul Gage (far left) will move to Singapore, while joint MD of iris’ experiential arm Nico Tuppen (centre) will join the Sydney office as part of the agency’s new regional management structure, effective from May.
In addition, Alyssiah Tsui will take up the role of commercial director for APAC & China while Andrew Wilson, who recently joined from BT, will be responsible for talent attraction and retention in his role as head of people for the region. Both will be based in Sydney.
All will become the regional heads of their discipline across Asia Pacific, reporting jointly into regional CEO’s Josh Thomson for APAC and David King for China.
iris, which has 17 offices in 10 countries, has made the decision to decentralise the global management structure to help the agency grow in four key regions – Europe, America, China and Asia. Identifying China as a separate region is a reflection of iris’ intent to further establish itself in the country, where it currently has offices in Shanghai and Beijing.
Ian Millner, CEO and founder of iris said, “To stay successful you have to change as you grow. The new regional management structure will help us expand more quickly and drive the development of marketing services as we look to establish the agency model of the future which is smarter, faster and more flexible in delivering true integration”.
“The dynamic and more flexible markets of Asia will continue to create opportunity for us as a business and we aim to give and share this opportunity with Asian talent by offering them new long term prospects. We want to be authentically rooted in the market and culture and be seen as the home for bright progressive Asian people who will be the future leaders of this business. At the same time, new opportunities have opened for those in the London office, where green space to grow has been created” he continued.
iris’ strategy for growth in Asia includes partnering with local entrepreneurs and developing strategic partnerships with likeminded agencies such as the deal it recently struck with Edge, which has given the agency access to Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand.
iris’ Asia-Pacific footprint includes offices in Delhi, Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai, Sydney and Melbourne. The agency was named ‘Mid-sized Network of the Year’ by Media magazine and employs over 750 people worldwide and expects this number to grow significantly this year, particularly in Asia.
